Enable the Add to Playbooks Button

How to Configure Salesforce so the Add to Playbooks Button is Present

Playbooks inserts a button into Salesforce that allows users to add records directly from the record page or list views. Some simple configuration is required for the button to appear. Often, Salesforce has these settings enabled already, but there are times where these settings need to be configured.

Enabling Add to Playbooks Button

If the “Add to Playbooks” button is missing from Salesforce, you may need to adjust some settings in CRM. There are two ways to ensure the “Add to Playbooks” button appears on the object record page. Either enable feed tracking on the object or set the edit button as the first button on the “Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience Actions” section of the object page layout.

To Enable Feed Tracking

  1. Open Salesforce Setup.
  2. Search for “Feed Tracking” in the Quick Find Bar.
  3. Open Feed Tracking (Features Settings > Chatter > Feed Tracking).
  4. Select the object on which Tracking will be enabled.
  5. Check the Enable Feed Tracking checkbox and configure the fields to be tracked below that.
  6. Click Save.

If you don’t want to enable feed tracking, set the edit button as the first button on the “Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience Actions” section of the object page layout.

Configuring the Edit Button as the First Button on a Lightning Page Layout

  1. Open Salesforce Setup.
  2. Search for “Object Manager” in the Quick Find Bar.
  3. Open Object Manager (Objects and Fields > Object Manager).
  4. Select the object whose layout will be edited.
  5. Open Page Layouts.
  6. Select the layout that will be edited.
  7. Set the Edit Button to the first position (leftmost) within the “Salesforce Mobile and Lightning Experience Actions” section of the page layout.
  8. Click Save.

Enabling Add to Playbooks Button to Custom List Views

Your Salesforce may have some custom list views that your reps use to add records to Playbooks. There are some differences between standard list views (recently viewed) and custom list views a rep can create. If you are using custom list views, use the following instructions to ensure the “Add to Playbooks” button appears.

For Custom List View

  1. Open Salesforce Setup.
  2. Search for “Object Manager” in the Quick Find Bar.
  3. Open Object Manager (Objects and Fields > Object Manager).
  4. Select the object whose list view you would like to edit.
  5. Click Search Layout.
  6. Look for and edit List View.
NOTE: May be under Classic search layout options – configuring the list view here will impact Lightning list view.
  7. Select the buttons would would like to appear.
  8. Click Save.

For the standard views like “recently viewed,” you can select and disable some button per the instructions above, but the “new” and “import” buttons are visible based on permissions configured in the user’s profile.

  • New Button – Permission to create records for the related object.
  • Import Button – Permissions to Import Custom Objects, Import Leads, and Import Personal Contacts.
